Rose Bowl Presentation
Presentation of Rose Bowl trophy to Alan Spencer, Director of the recent award winning YAOS production "The Pirates of Penzance - Broadway Version".
At a ceremony held at its Edwards House headquarters on July 8th, Yeovil Amateur Operatic Society presented its Rose Bowl trophy to Alan Spencer, director and choreographer of his award winning show "The Pirates of Penzance - Broadway Version".
Yeovil Amateur Operatic Society won the prestigious Aardman Animations Award for Best Operetta, at the annual Rose Bowl awards celebration hosted by the Bristol Evening Post. In presenting the award to YAOS, the Adjudicators made the following citation:
"This production had moments of sheer brilliance. It had good taste and gave due deference to the original opera and in many ways re-examined the intentions of Gilbert.
Owing to its exceptionally high level of projected energy and swiftness of pace, the show was hugely entertaining. The whole company should be very proud of doing exceptional justice to this hybrid and somewhat experimental work.
Gilbert would have been delighted! Sullivan? Probably furious!! The audience of 2007 - thrilled to bits!!"
The annual Bristol Evening Post Rose Bowl Awards celebrates the best in amateur dramatics from all over the South West and was hosted by Mamma Mia! writer Catherine Johnson, shown here presenting the trophy to YAOS Chairman Roger Bullock. The show was produced by Yeovil Amateur Operatic Society at the Octagon Theatre. The director and choreographer was Alan Spencer and the musical direction was by Pete Harrison.
| Alan Spencer is also directing the next YAOS production "The Gondoliers" at the Octagon Theatre, 5th - 10th October 2009. |
