Rose Bowl award winner
YAOS wins coveted Rose Bowl award for 'Pirates of Penzance'
Yeovil Amateur Operatic Society is proud to announce that on Sunday 19th October 2008, the Society was presented with the Aardman Animations Award for Best Operetta for its production of 'The Pirates of Penzance - Broadway Version'.

The annual Bristol Evening Post Rose Bowl Awards, which celebrates the best in amateur dramatics from all over the South West, was hosted by Mamma Mia! writer Catherine Johnson, pictured here presenting the trophy to Roger Bullock, YAOS Chairman.
The Rose Bowl awards have a long and prestigious standing in the South West's amateur theatre world, with over 100 productions vying for the 18 trophies. In presenting the award to YAOS, the Adjudicators said:
"This production had moments of sheer brilliance. It had good taste and gave due deference to the original opera and in many ways re-examined the intentions of Gilbert.
Owing to its exceptionally high level of projected energy and swiftness of pace, the show was hugely entertaining. The whole company should be very proud of doing exceptional justice to this hybrid and somewhat experimental work.
Gilbert would have been delighted! Sullivan? Probably furious!! The audience of 2007 - thrilled to bits!!"
The show was produced by YAOS at Yeovil's Octagon Theatre in October 2007. The director and choreographer was Alan Spencer and the musical direction was by Pete Harrison.
