The Mountebanks is a comic opera in two acts, written by W S Gilbert, with music by Alfred Cellier and Ivan Caryll. The story concerns a magic potion that causes the person to whom it is administered to become what he or she has pretended to be. The opera was first produced at the Lyric Theatre, London in 1892 and also toured extensively, including a short Broadway run, American tours and Australian productions.
