'Oklahoma!' was the first show written by the collaboration between composer Richard Rodgers and librettist Oscar Hammerstein II. Based on the play 'Green Grow the Lilacs', by Lynn Riggs, the story is set in Oklahoma and tells the story of cowboy Curly McLain and his romance with farm girl Laurey Williams. The original Broadway production opened in March 1943 and was a box-office smash, running for an astonishing 2,212 performances. In 1955 there was an Academy Award-winning film adaptation.
